Bersillies
Bersillies is a common French, located in the department of the Northern and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
Geography
Bersillies is located at the junction of three brooks: brook of the marshes, with vayaul and of the Hospital (or of Elesmes).
History
With the Middle Ages the name was written: Berseillies, Berchillies, Bercillies and Bersely. Perhaps the name comes from bersée, enclosed and of ly, field. That is to say field of the enclosure. The village belonged from time immemorial, with its dependences, in the chapter of Maubeuge, which had there revenues, incomes, and the majority of the seigneuriaux rights. The principal dependences of Bersillies all were almost wedged in the common neighbors. These enclaves were: the hamlet of the Mounds, close of Longueville; the wood and the farm of tops Sars, in the north of Maubeuge; farms of Roteleux and Héron-Fountain. The chapter of Maubeuge, with another portion contiguous to the city, was also included/understood in the same commune, and constituted what one called the seigniory of Berseillies-in-Maubeuge. The chapter of Maubeuge, in addition to the taxable quotas and incomes, had the right of mortemain and that to name the first and third alderman of the commune. The abbess of Maubeuge chose among the 8 aldermen of the commune, the mayor.
