Bernie Ecclestone

Bernard Charles Ecclestone known under the name of Bernie Ecclestone (born the October 29th 1930 with Ipswich, in the county of Suffolk, England) is a British business man which was a time owner of a stable of Formule 1 (Brabham), before being essential like the true owner of the discipline queen of the automobile Sport in the world. He is regarded by it today as the “Minister of Finance. ”

Biography

Bernard Ecclestone initially was racing driver as of 1949, in Formule 3 of 500  cm ³, then in 1958, after having bought the single-seaters of the stable of F1 Connaught which withdrew championship of the world. It is registered with GP of Monaco on Connaught model C but does not carry out any time in qualification and cannot thus run. It also takes part in GP of Great Britain the same year, but as a test pilot. Its poor results then do not enable him to be made a place in the history of the automobile sport as a pilot. He becomes also the manager of the pilot Stuart Lewis-Evans, whose tragic death encourages it to move away from the automobile Sport.

After having made fortune in the real estate, it returns in F1 like managing of the Austrian pilot Jochen Rindt, then as directing of the stable Brabham which it repurchases fine 1971 and will lead to the world title with Nelson Piquet in 1981 and 1983.

In the middle of the Years 1970, it federates the principal stables within FOCA (Formula One Constructors Association) with the head of which it develops the commercial aspects of F1 (agreements with the organizers of Grand Prix, negotiation of the rights of television). Increasingly influential, the FOCA also intends to exert a right to watch on the sporting regulation of the discipline, which leads at the end of the decade 1970 with a sharp conflict with the FISA (sporting body of TRUSTED) and its French president Jean-Marie Balestre. This fight, indicated under the name of Guerre FISA-FOCA leads in 1981 to the Accords Agrees , which ratify the division of the capacities between the FISA and the FOCA: with the FISA sporting capacity and the FOCA (and thus in Ecclestone) economic capacity. In 1987, it resells Brabham and creates the FOPA (Formula One Promotions and Administration), which manages the promotional rights on the Grands Prix. The same year, it becomes moreover the vice-president of the TRUSTED. The election in 1991 with the head of TRUSTED of its old accomplice max Mosley (cofounder of the March stable and the FOCA), to replace the Balestre intransigent, reinforces his capacity.

It revolutionized, with these federations, the universe of F1, by making a true business which completely made disappear amateurism and environment “good child” from heroic times of the beginnings, when F1 was still business of craftsmen. It there gained as many friends as enemies, and piled up thanks to its activities a fortune considered by the specialized magazines as the sixth of Great Britain.

Since September 2007, it is with Flavio Briatore one of the owners of the club of London Football of the Queens Park Rangers.

It domiciled with Gstaad in Suisse. He is the owner of the infrastructures of the ski station Suisse, Diablerets and of the Circuit Paul Ricard.
