Bernardo Sandoval

Bernardo Sandoval (1958 -) is Franco-Spanish, Toulouse of adoption, famous and talented guitarist, composer-songwriter and interprets. It works with the world recognition of the Flamenco, music which it does not hesitate with métisser with the styles latinos, jazzy, affro and Mediterranean.

Biography

Born in May 1958 in Castille and Leon, he is the child of a working-class family which exiled itself in 1960 with Toulouse. As of its more tender childhood, it is marked by the musical influences of its country of origin.

Is 14 years old, it discovers the Guitare. After some odd jobs (he was florist the weekend places Jeanne d' Arc at Toulouse), he starts to earn money by giving courses of guitar. He attends the Spanish center of the street of the Country cottages and discovers the Flamenco what becomes the first flash in its life. This music arouses at his place a strong interest for the strong message of revolt which it returns. At the time of the fall of the pro-Franco dictatorship, at 16 years, it decides to turn over towards its country of origin and share to find singers of Flamenco to Barcelona. At 20 years, one notices it and it is graduate in 1978 the famous one and strict pulpit of Flamenco of Cordoba (the price of guitar of Cordoue) for its “its contribution with art flamenco as regards guitar in concert” . In 1979, it is honoured with the first price of the National competition of Unión (Spanish equivalent of the Grand Prix of the Academy Charles-Cross-country race).

Environment polemics, the justifications, the ambient elitism and the integrism of the Flamenco in Spain displeased to him and it decided to return to Toulouse. Its return was mainly justified by the fact that in Toulouse various kinds of musics cohabited played by friends with whom it could métisser his music. The rock'n'roll, the blues, the salsa and the other musics represented for him an interest as important as flamenco: " I am flamenco, but not that flamenco! " . Bernardo Sandoval was attracted by the Toulouse cosmopolitan side where it could play easily with his friends in about thirty different places. Always in 1979, Bernardo Sandoval contacts El Salvador Paterna to assemble a duet which they will turn during two years in France and in Spain.

Thereafter, it launches out in many other rounds and furrows many countries such as Africa, North and South America. It makes the meeting of great names of the music like Paco de Lucia, Camaron of Isla, Didier Lockwood, Michel Jonasz, Jacques Higelin, Chavela Vargas….

Thus, Bernardo Sandoval was truly discovered in 1988 with the Festival of Bourges where it makes the first part of Didier Lockwood. It ensured also the first part of Michel Jonasz the Cigale and the Casino of Paris, in 1989. The same year, it occurs with Camarón of Isla in the Arènes of Nimes. The power of its music conquers a public require and fine expert of Flamenco.

Its discography begins in the Nineties. It makes several voyages or it plays Cuba, with the Chile, the Senegal. The Africa (Togo and Benign) becomes for him a true revelation and allows him to develop truly its musical style. It becomes acquainted also with the actress Zouie, who will become her MUSE then his wife. In 1996 it belongs to the project of the collective 100% colleagues. It takes part in the collectives 100% Colleagues and Motivés with Serge Lopez, Pascal Rollando, Philippe Dutheil (the resumption of the Chant of the Partisans) and the singers of Zebda, Jean-Luc Amestoy, Marc Dechaumont, of the personalities of the Toulouse scene.

Another strong moment in its life was the meeting of Alain Moglia which made him discover the classical music.

Bernado Sandoval becomes the author of some “traditional”, of which " Camino del Alba" , " Emptied, Hoy" , " Negriluz" , " In Vivo" …

He is also author of B.O of film musics like " Marie bay of the anges" of Manual Pradal but especially of " Western" of Manual Pear tree and of which it obtains the César film music at the time of the 51ème Cannes festival in 1998. In the same way, it composes for Mehdi Charef the B.O of " Marie-line" with Muriel Robin, like " The Girl of Keltoum" which will be presented to the 54ème Cannes festival 2001.

He worked lately with the Mexico on the first part of his work " Rekindio" . It thus occurred in round with the Mexico (Vera Cruz, Monterrey, Puebla, Guadalajara…) with an orchestra of 50 chorus-singers, 150 musicians and the large singer soloist Zapothèque Lorena Vera. Its recital solo Rekindio " Mass for Indiens" is a work carried out in collaboration with the arranger Jean-Marc Fouché.

On his return, Bernard Sandoval occurred in France and Begique.

He also worked on a " creation-maison" around texts written by his/her Gaby brother, and of the work of the sculptor Alain Corret. Its new Album " Amor" composition of stroll accompanied by a trio of jazz (Guillaume Dechassy with the Piano, Joel Trolonge with the Contrebasse, Jean-Denis Rivalo with the battery) must leave soon.
