Bernardo Carried

Bernardo Porta is a type-setter of opera Italy N born with Rome in 1758 and died in Paris in 1829.

Biography

After having learned the composition at Magrini, he becomes choirmaster to Tivoli. Returned in its birthplace, the prince de Salm Constantin Alexandre, prelate of Rome, takes it with its service. From this time its first opera the Princess goes back to Amalfi composed for the Argentina theater, which is not success.

It arrives at Paris in 1788 and gives to the Italian theater the devil to four or the double metamorphosis . Under the Revolution, it composes Agricol Viala, or the 13 year old hero created to the theater of the Opera, a part glorifiant a martyr of the republic. Its most famous work is Horaces according to the part of Corneille, and whose scene pays homage to table the Oath of Horaces paints by Jacques Louis David, friend of the type-setter. It owes its celebrity with the conspiracy of the daggers , an attempt at plot of assassination against the first Consul Napoleon Bonaparte, who attended the first representation. In 1804 it composes its last opera the constable of Clisson , work considered as poor by criticisms, and which will not have any success.

He writes also Messe S, Motet S, Oratorio S, as well as instrumental music: six duets for two violoncellos, two trios, three quartets for flute, violin, viola and low, of the quintets. He was also Master of song. He died in 1829 of the cholera.
