Bernard Stasi

Bernard Stasi (born the July 4th 1930 with Rheims) is a Politician French.

Biography

Graduate of ENA in 1959, it was to advise in the cabinets of various ministers of 1963 with 1968, before becoming appointed Marne of 1968 with 1973, then of 1974 with 1993 under the label of the Center of the Social Democrats (which became one of the components of the UDF). He was vice-president of the National Assembly of 1978 with 1983, president of the area Champagne-Ardenne of 1981 with 1988, European Député of 1994 with 1998 and mayor of Épernay of 1970 with 1977 and of 1983 with 2000.

He lost his seat of deputy in 1993 following his position on the law Evin concerning publicities for alcohol (he is full wine-producing area). He obtains the cancellation of the election but is again beaten at the time of the by-election in 1994.

From April 5th, 1973 to February 12th, 1974, he was Minister for the Departments and Overseas territories of the Gouvernement Pierre Messmer (2). He condemns the coup d'etat of the Chilean general Pinochet of September 11th, 1973.

Of 1998 with 2004, it occupied the mandate of Médiateur of the Republic, which title it chaired the Commission Stasi in charge of a report/ratio on the Laïcité in France.

He is member of the committee of sponsorship of the French Coordination for the Decade of the culture of peace and non-violence.

In 2007, it supports Francois Bayrou with the presidential election because, for him, it is the only one which proposes " a majority of convictions".
