Bernard Lamy

Bernard Lamy was born the June 15th 1640 with the Mans, deceased the January 29th 1715 with Rouen.

He studies with the Collège oratorien of Mans up to 18 years, then returns in the institution oratorienne to Paris. He studies during one year with Saumur Philosophy then is allowed in 1662 with the Oratory (Congrégation of the Oratory), where he binds friendship with Nicolas Malebranche. Ordered in 1667, he becomes professor with the college of Saumur then Angers. After having supported the philosophy of Descartes, it must exile during 4 years of 1676 with 1680, on order of the King. It returns to Grenoble, then after a short stay with Paris of 1686 with 1689, saw the end of its life with Rouen.

Philosopher, it publishes in 1675 a Art of speaking which exerted a certain influence, in particular at Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Mathematician and physicist, it publishes a Traité of Mechanics in 1679, a Traité size in general in 1680 and the elements of geometry in 1685.
