Bernard Jacqueline
Monseigneur Bernard Jacqueline (Saint-Lo, March 18th 1918 - id., February 26th 2007) was a prelate and Norman historian, Apostolic nuncio in Africa. He was titular archbishop of Abbir Majus and corresponding member of the Institut, doctor in canonical right and doctor arts, prize winner of the French Academy.
Biography
Resulting from a dynasty of printers saint-laws, within which it draws its dilection for the history, Bernard Jacqueline studies successively with the Institut Saint-Lo d' Agneaux and with the Séminaire Saint-Sulpice of Paris. It is ordered priest on March 12th, 1944 in the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. With the Release, its parochial ministry in the Diocese of Coutances-and-Avranches the conduit successively with the Mount-Saint-Michel (1944) - where it accommodates the troops allied -, with Mortain (1945) and Tourlaville (1946). He teaches then philosophy at the Saint-Paul institute of Cherbourg while serving the parish of Gonneville (1947-1951). He obtains meanwhile his doctorate in canonical right to the catholic Institut of Paris. Called with Rome, he is chaplain of the Chateaubriand college, chaplain of the church Saint-Louis-of-French and vice-chancellor of the vault Saint-Pierre-Fourier (1951-1961). After having worked with the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith (1961-1973), he becomes under-secretary of the Secrétariat for Incroyants. He obtains his arts doctorate in 1971 by supporting a thesis in Sorbonne on " Episcopate and Papacy according to saint Bernard de Clairvaux". He is devoted bishop by the cardinal Casaroli in June 1982 in the basilica Saint-Pierre of Rome and sees himself allotting, between 1982 to 1985, the load of Apostolic nuncio with the Burundi. He is then named with the Morocco near the king Hassan II of 1986 to 1993. He is also postulator of the cause of beatification of Charles de Foucauld and Marthe Bouteiller. In 1989, he is elected corresponding member of the Academy of Science morals and political.He takes his retirement in 1993, and returns to live in Saint-Lo. He devotes himself then to the history of his birthplace and the department, while chairing the Société of archeology and history of the English Channel, to which he belonged since 1937. Since 1950, it had translated the work " the Battle of Saint-Lo " , account of war written by an American soldier. He receives in 1987 the price Cardinal Grente of the French Academy.
