Bernard II of Saxony-Meiningen was a prince of the line of the Saxony-Meiningen third branch of the Maison of Wettin, this line belongs to the branch Ernestine founded by Ernest of Saxony. This line is always existing, it is currently represented by the prince Frederic Conrad of Saxony-Meiningen.
At the time of the division of the Saxon territories the November 12th 1826, the Saxony-Hildburghausen and the Saxony-Saalfeld échurent in Bernard II of Saxony-Meiningen. During the war austro-Prussian, Bernard II of Saxony-Meiningen took the party of the Austria, but the Austrian Empire lost this war (Bataille of Sadowa the July 3rd 1866) and Bernard II of Saxony-Meiningen was in the obligation to abdicate in favor of his son Georges II of Saxony-Weimar (1866). Consequently Bernard II of Saxony-Meiningen lived like an ordinary citizen in his own duchy.
