Bernard Georges François Brother

Bernard Georges François Brother , born the October 2nd 1764, with Montreal (Aude), general French.

He was Pharmacien at the beginning of the French revolution. Entered with the service in 1791, it deserved two years after the command of the 2nd battalion of the Aude.

The armies of the the Pyrenees and Italy where it made the campaigns which preceded the Traité by Campo-Formio were pilot of its value. It was wounded with fear Sezia, with the entry in the Piedmont. Major to the 1e half-brigade of line, it was still wounded with the Combat of Bassano, in 1796, when this regiment precipitating on the parts which defended the Pont of Brenta, removed them, passed the bridge and penetrated in the city in spite of the obstinate resistance of the pomegranate battalions, elite of the Austrian army. The general Napoleon Bonaparte quoted honourably the commander Frère in his report/ratio with the Directoire and colonel of its regiment did it. He passed in this quality to the Armée with the West, in Holland, with the Armée with the Rhine, which he left to come to order the Guard of the consuls. Promoted the September 12th 1802 with the Brigadier general rank of , it belonged to the army corps which seized the Hanover in 1803.

It fought in Austria, Prussia and Poland, in the campaigns of 1804 with 1807, and was quoted with distinction in the bulletins of the army. The general contributed to the Prise of Lubeck and entered one of the first this place. In the Countryside of Poland, it was charged to defend the important passage of the Pont of Spanden, on the Passarge; seven times the line of the allies, strong of ten thousand men, went on the cuttings off, and seven times it in fled pushed back by the Frère general who had with him only the 27e regiment of light infantry and four parts of gun. This defense which cost the enemy more than thousand men, took place the June 5th 1807 and one of most brilliant was feat of arms of the countryside. The Frère general accepted the following year the title of Count of the Empire, the cross of commander, the Major general rank of and a command in.

The June 7th it went on Segovia, and arrived at a quarter of mile of this city, it sent a member of Parliament to invite the magistrates to make return the insurrectionists in the duty. The Spaniards, forts of five thousand men and supported by thirty pieces of artillery, having accommodated the member of Parliament with blows of gun, the count Frère ordered the attack at once. The place was carried of sharp force; many Spaniards perished in the combat, a great number were taken and one seized the guns. The Frère general took share with the Siège of Saragossa in the capacity as chief of staff of the marshal Lannes, with whom it turned over in Austria. He gave to it new evidence of value and talent, and was seriously wounded with the Bataille of Wagram. Of return in the Peninsula, it was still announced to the seats of Tortose and from Tarragone, in France in 1813 returned, was called with the command of the 13th division (Rennes), and then of the 46e with Lille.

After the First Restoration, the count Frère was named Chevalier of Saint-Louis, remained about inactive during the Hundred Days, and less its command did not lose any.

He died, the February 16th 1826. His/her only son was killed in duel.

Its name is engraved on the Triumphal arch of the Star; southern part.
