Berkshire
Berkshire, sometimes shortened with Berks , is a county in the south of the England (the United Kingdom), located at the west of London and framed by the Oxfordshire, the Buckinghamshire, the Large London, the Surrey, the Wiltshire and the Hampshire. One also knows it like royal county of Berkshire - this title being made official with a concession in the Années 1930. Its chief town is Reading but one of the most known cities is Windsor, residence royal of Elisabeth II.
History
This county is one of oldest in England, certainly going up with the installation of the traditional counties by the king Alfred Large the of Wessex. After the reorganization of the local government in 1974, Abingdon and Vale off White Horse were transferred to the Oxfordshire, Slough was attached to the Buckinghamshire, and Reading became the capital of the county. April 1st 1998 the council of the county was removed and the zones became " authorities unitaires".The county takes its name of a large forest of trees of birch which was called " Bearroc" (Celtic for “victim”) and was in the beginning an exchange of ground with King Cenwalh de Wessex. That moment, only the western and northern parts made party of the county.
Berkshire was the theater many battles through the history, by the campaigns of Alfred Large the against the Danes, in particular the Bataille of Englesfield, the Bataille of Ashdown and the Bataille of Reading. During the English civil war there be two battles with Newbury.
