The Bering Strait , or strait of Behring , separates from 64 km the Eastern Siberia (the course Dejnev) of the Alaska (the course of the Check cloth) and connects the Bering Sea (left septentrional the Pacific Ocean) to the Arctic Ocean.
It owes its name to the navigator Vitus Bering (1681 - 1741), a Russian explorer born with the Denmark which crossed the strait in 1728.
Both islands Diomède are located about in its center, on both sides of the border between the Russia and the the United States
