Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren

The BLM (Bergbahnen Lauterbrunnen-Mürren) is a company of Railroad and Funiculaire of the area of the Jungfrau. The line connects Lauterbrunnen and the insolated village of Mürren. Since the common station BOB, WAB and BLM, the travellers travel by a cable car (until 2006 it was about a funicular) to the station of transfer of Grütschalp. There, it was necessary to change for the train with narrow gauge railway which brought us directly to Mürren.

Considering the lack of motor-road between Mürren and the rest of the world, the only means of reaching the village was to take the BLM or the cable cars of LSMS (since Stechelberg).

Because of the instability of the ground and deformation of the ways, the funicular inaugurated in 1891 stopped definitively on April 24th, 2006, and was replaced by a cable car whose startup proceeded on December 16th, 2006. The station of Grütschalp was preserved.

Cable car

The new cable car follows the old layout of the funicular. Stations BLM of Lauterbrunnen and Grütschalp one transformed to accommodate the new cable car. This one comprises only one cabin and can transport 500 people and 30 tons of goods per hour and direction, with a 12 minutes rate.
