Berenger Ier of the Friuli

Berenger Ier ( Berengar ) († 924), was one of the nine children of Évrard ( Eberhard ) († 866), marquis de Frioul (itself wire of Unroch, count of Ternois) and of its wife Gisele ( Gisela ) († 874), as for it girl of the Emperor Louis the Piles.

Initially marquis de Frioul pertaining to the family of the Unrochides and heir to the royal field of Annapes, Bérenger was elected king of the Lombards to Pavia, in 888, but it was overcome as of the following year by its candidate Guy ( Wido ) († 894). This last, duke of Spolète, was elected king in his turn in February 889.

Berenger did not cease fighting to take again the capacity, it to what he arrived on several occasions. He proclaimed even Empereur of the Romans in 915.

Finally, Bérenger Ier died assassinated in Vérone the April 7th 924. With its death, the title of Empereur will undergo a long vacancy before the crowning of Otton Ier in 962.

His/her daughter, Gisele of the Friuli, married Adalbert, marquis d' Ivrée. From this union was born Bérenger II († 966), which became in its turn king of Lombards in 950: this last is the ancestor of the Count Palatines of Burgundy.
