The Bequeathed , port departmental of Saint-Brieuc, is the 5th Breton port in term of activity. It opens on the English Channel with the outlet of the Gouët which separates Saint-Brieuc from Plérin by
Activities
They turn around:- of the maritime trade with the export of scrap, of sands, Kaolin and another quarry materials, and product imports agroalimentary and of structural timber coming from the Scandinavian countries ,
- inshore fishing and in season the Scallop
- naval repair, additional
- yachting and marketing activities,
- and the safeguarding of the local maritime inheritance with the presence of the lougre Large Léjon.
Economy
- the marketing activity has known a renewal of activity for a few years with a traffic for 2006 of 337.900 tons is 236.700 tons of importation and 101.200 tons of exportation.
- the port is managed by the Chamber of commerce and of Industry. With the assistance of the General advice and the Community of agglomeration of Saint-Brieuc (CABRI), infrastructures were carried out in the outer harbor with the construction of a dam of 450 meters and 2 quays allowing from now on ships of 180 m and 8000 tons to accost.
- the ships of more than 45 m require the assistance of a pilot taking into account particular topography. One reaches the port by narrow a enough lock for the ships of smaller tonnage, the fishing vessels and the yachts.
- Since February 1st, 2007, the wearing of Saint-Brieuc belongs to the Federation of the regional and local ports of the English Channel gathering of the French ports of Douarnenez to Calais, of the English ports of Penzance to Medway, the Anglo-Norman ports of Saint-Hélier for Jersey and of Saint-Pierre-Port for Guernesey and the Belgian port of Ostend. The objective is to develop the marketing activities while doing better to know the whole of the ports, to better manage the environment by creating an office of regional freighting to avoid circulation with vacuum of ships, and to share know-how as regards maritime security.
