Benoit Dutrizac

Benoît Dutrizac is a chronicler, producing TV host and televisual Québécois born with Montreal in 1961.

Biography

Once its collegial studies in finished social sciences, it obtains successively a certificate in cinematographic scenarisation and Journalisme with UQAM and the Université of Montreal. These two disciplines will not be useless with the professional advance of Dutrizac.

It is in 1982 that it obtains its first employment as journalist and critical with the magazine Quebec Rock . It also publishes, between 1987 and 1997 not less than six works: novels, collections and tests. All these ouvages is created at the same time as a current participation in the weekly magazine Voir , where it made there the literary current events and some criticisms, and with the creation of some feature-length films such the caretaker's lodge and Black thoughts for a pink man in collaboration with Michel Poulette.

During ten years, Dutrizac overlaps literature, cinematography and journalism. It is in 1998 that it begins what one could call his rise towards journalism. It animates its first emission of topicality with Richard Martineau, this emission is called the Franc-tireurs and is diffused on TV-Quebec. Under the Dutrizac-Martineau reign, this emission less had dimensions of listening of step than 100.000 listeners per week, figure very sizeable in ragard of the other emissions of the chain. He becomes radio presenter as from January 2004 in Montreal, where he has a broad time beach saturdays.

Shortly after its reference of TV-Quebec (according to him because of its outspokenness), he becomes presenter of Newspaper of midday on Télévision Four Seasons (TQS). It will have however to leave its radio program to be devoted to it fully.

Journalistic production

Benoît Dutrizac plays of his capacity to emit opinions and to give an opinion with the course at the time of his interventions, alternating confidence and provocation in the interviews which it carries out (as for example it did it with the humorist Louis-Jose Houde in the Franc-tireurs ) with a very particular technique. As explains it Claude Sauvé in his text “ Reconnaître three types of interview ”, the interview of chair aims at the exposure of the facts and the justification of the actions and the interview of bolster want to lead the guest to act and give an opinion compared to the subjects given. Dutrizac overlaps these two kinds constantly. The construction of the interview is made so that the guest can feel in confidence from the beginning with the interviewor and can consequently fall into the confidences.

The interviewor benefits from his role of privileged observer and allows himself to evaluate competences of the person interviewed. Criticisms of Dutrizac are often directly connected to the questions of the interview, adding to the concept of interview of bolster.

Its standpoint during emissions also attracted the fire of criticisms to him, in particular when at the time of a report on the gangs of street in Montreal, where it uses the term “ gangs of negros ” to speak about the hooligans of districts. Same manner, it qualified the ic religion Islam of “ stupid religion ” at the time of an interview to the Franc-tireurs with Dr. Amir Khadir. CRTC will qualify the first badly selected remarks of “, but not heinous ” and in the second case, probably because no complaint was formulated, no criticism or decision was returned.
