Bengali

Introduction

The Bengali (or bânglâ ; local name: bāṅlā/বাংলা ) is a Indian language pertaining to the connects Indo-Iranian of the family of the Indo-European Langues. He is spoken with the Bangladesh, of which he is the national language, like in India, in particular with the Western Bengal and the Tripura, of which he is the official language, and in the district of Cachar. According to the edition of 1999 of the World Almanac , it is the native tongue of more than 207 million speakers. With the Assamais, it is about Eastern of the Indo-European Langues. Deriving from the Prâkrit Mâgadhî, most of its vocabulary was borrowed from the Sanskrit, while receiving a lexical contribution arabo-Persan important.

It influenced a great number of languages Tibéto-Burmeses of the North-West of India, in particular the Metei which borrowed its writing to him.

It is noted in a Semi-spelling-book derived from the Brâhmî which is clean for him, very near to the Devanâgarî, of which it respects the general principles; its layout is however more angular.
