Benelli

Benelli is a mechanical building firm (motor bikes and Arme S) Italy. Division weapon currently belongs to Beretta, while the mark of motor bike is the property of the Chinese group Qianjiang.

History

Its foundation goes back to 1911, with Pesaro by a mother (Teresa Benelli) and her sons Giuseppe, Giovanni, Francesco, Filippo, Domenico and Antonio known as “ Tonino ” . Teresa wished that its sons have a healthy employment. It thus put all economies of the family to found the “Benelli Garage”: a repair shop of cars and motor bikes. In front of the difficulty of providing itself in parts to repair, they decide to manufacture these parts, and acquire a certain notoriety.

Motor bikes

In 1920, Benelli produces its first engine, one 75 cm ³ which adapted on a framework of bicycle.

In 1921, Benelli builds its first motor cycle called Motoleggera, with an engine of 98 cm ³, immediately appreciated of the public. The passion was such as it was declined in version 150 and 175 cm ³. The latter will know success in the championship of Italy into 1927,1928,1930 and 1931, with the hands of Tonio. Its career was unfortunately short, an accident put an end to it in 1932.

In 1936, the technicians develop one 250 which knew a great business success and sportsman.

In 1939, Ted Mellors gains the Tourist Trophy with the handlebar of Benelli.

After the Second world war, during which the factory was completely destroyed, the six brothers reflect at the point Leoncino 125. This model made reappear the company, as well on the commercial plan as sporting. Tarquinio Provini and Renzo Pasolini belonged to the Benelli stable.

With the beginning of the year seventy, Benelli is in the storm and is repurchased by Alejandro De Tomaso, the owner of the automobile company De Tomaso. It insulfe a new wind and puts on the rails the range of Sei six cylinders (750 cm ³ and 900 cm ³). He learns how with the mark to rationalize the production, he creates the 354 and 500 Quattro, taking again many parts Honda.

Until the beginning of the year eighty, the competition of the Japanese constructors obliged the mark to concentrate only on the vehicles of small-engined car. The mark disappears with the beginning of the year eighty ten, but reappears after the repurchase by Merloni in 2003. To start again the mark, the leaders choose an outstanding name in the history of Benelli. Tornado Limited Edition is born, launching the range of supersportive Tornado 900 cm ³. They also work out roadster TNT 1130.

But the firm is badly. It is resold with manufacturing motor bike Chinese Qianjiang. Tornado evolves/moves and is declined in version 1130, the TNT becomes Tornado Naked Tre.
