Ben Cardin
Benjamin Louis Cardin (born the October 5th 1943), is a American Politician , member of the democratic party and senator of the Maryland to the Congrès of the United States since January 2007.
Ben Cardin was born with Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Gilded Green and of Meyer Mr. Cardin.
The patronym original of the family is “Kardonsky”. It was changed into Cardin by the grandparent of Ben Cardin, of the immigrants Juif S of origne Russian.
Meyer Cardin (deceased in 2005) was a Juriste and a local politician of Baltimore, elected official at the 27 years age in 1935 to represent district 2 of the city. His/her brother, Maurice Cardin, represented district 5 of the town of Baltimore of 1951 with 1966.
The November 24th 1964, Ben Cardin marries Myrna Edelman whereas it has just been dipômé of university of Pittsburgh. It is 21 years old. It will have a Deborah girl and a son, Michael (deceased by suicide in 1998 at the 30 years age).
If Ben Cardin continues studies in right to the university of Maryland (it is dipômé in 1967), its political career starts as of 1966 when his/her uncle Maurice decides not to be represented in district 5 and desists in favor of his nephew, then 22 years old. Ben Cardin is elected with the room of delegated of Maryland.
In 1986, after 20 years passed with the congress of Maryland, Ben Cardin leaves the local policy for the national policy and is made elect with the room of the representatives to the seat held before by Barbara Mikulski, with 79% of the voices. With the room, its files of predilection relate to the tax questions, the reform of the retirement pensions and the system of medical cover.
In 1998, it is named with the presidency of the special subcommittee of Maryland on the laws on the ethical and the Déontologie after Co-having chaired the commission of the ethics of the Congress.
The April 26th 2005, Cardin announces its decision to contribute to the democratic nomination for the seat of the senator Paul Sarbanes who decided not to represent himself.
It obtains accuracy the democratic nomination in September 2006 with 44% of the voices compared with 40% with Kweisi Mfume, 5% with Josh Rales and 2% with Dennis F. Rasmussen.
The November 7th 2006, Cardin is elected senator of the Maryland with 54,21% vis-a-vis the republican Michael Steele who obtains 44,23% of the voices to him.
In 2007, it Co-chairs the commission on safety and the co-operation in Europe and is vice-president of the parliamentary assembly of the organization for safety and the co-operation in Europe (SOEC).
He is regarded as one of the democrats most favorable to the policy of the state of Israel and is favorable to the co-operation for the development of the civil Nucléaire in India.
Its nephew, Jon S. Cardin, are since 2002 delegated to the room of Maryland where it represents district 11, that is to say the western districts of the county of Baltimore.
