Ben Burtt
Ben Burtt is a Bruiteur, Monteur, American Réalisateur born the July 12th 1948 with Syracuse, New York. Among his most known work one can quote the creation of the band his episodes of the saga Star Wars and Indiana Jones .
Biography
Burtt initially obtained a college dismantles in Physique in Allegheny College before gaining in 1970 the National Student Film Festival (national Festival of student film) with a Film of war entitled Yankee Squadron . Its work on the special effects of the film Genesis enabled him to obtain a purse to return to the the University of California of the South where it took down a maîtise in production of films.
Work
Ben Burtt created an new approach of the sound design, in particular in the kinds of the Science-fiction and the Fantasy. Indeed, before its work in Star Wars the science fiction films generally used electronic sounds to obtain a futuristic aspect. Burtt on the contrary sought more natural sounds, more familiar. For example, the buzz of the laser Saber was created starting from the buzz of an old man projector mixed with that of a broken television, the sound of the guns blaster as for him was created starting from the sound which made the stay of a broadcasting transmitter when one struck it with a key . Burtt also used recordings of his wife, whereas this one had taken cold and was nailed with the bed, for the film E.T extraterrestrial the .It is also known to include the “Cri Wilhelm” in the majority of the films in which it collaborates: one can for example hear it when a Stormtrooper makes a fall in a new hope or even in the Adventurers of the lost arch when a Nazi falls off a truck moving.
Burtt also makes appearance as a Caméo in two of the episodes of the saga Star Wars : in the Return of Jedi where he plays an imperial officer shouting “High the hands! ” just before Han Solo does not send it over the balcony, and in the phantom Threat where it can be saw with the background at the end of film when Amidala congratulates Palpatine. Its voice is used also basic for certain sound effects like the beeps and the whistles of the droïde R2-D2 or even certain growls of the miniature holographic monsters for edge of the Faucon Millenium . It is also him which lends its voice to the captain of the Invisible Main in the Revenge of Sith .
