The Plaine of Sidi Fathallah bears the name of a Moslem Saint died in 1444 and considered to cure the sterility women. Its Zaouïa gives rise to then a Hameau close which the road passes connecting Tunis to Sousse. This plain, which extends between Djebel Kharrouba and the Colline S from Mégrine and Radès, was certainly the theater of the Bataille of the AD Decimum, putting fine at the domination vandal, which is gained by Bélisaire, general of Byzantine, the September 13rd 533.During the French protectorate (1881 - 1956), Ben Arous bears the name of Fochville in its high part (hill in the south-west of the Railway Tunis-Bir Kassaâ) and Ben Arous to the North-East of the railway. The first part is populated essentially employees of the farm Company of the Tunisian railroads, company whose warehouse is in Sidi Fathallah, whereas second is primarily populated employees who work in Tunis, of small shopkeepers and of more recent immigrants who acquired or not the French nationality. The plain between Ben Arous and Mégrine, in the North-East, and the hills between Bir Kassaâ and the road of Zaghouan, in south-east, are then occupied by cereal cultures, whose product is stored in the grain silos of the station ferrovière of Bir Kassaâ, and of the Vignoble S.
Today, this plain located at the doors of Tunis has a character clearly Industrie L and shelters many agroalimentary factories and vast railway workshops and cars which supported the creation of working cities.
