Belp

Belp is a common Suisse of the Canton of Bern, located in the District of Seftigen.

Geography

Belp is a city of the Swiss Plateau, located in the valley of Gürbe, with 10 kilometers with flight-D' bird of Bern.

On the hill of Belpberg, a new allotment (Siedlung Riedli) was arranged to accommodate 500 new inhabitants.

The airport of Bern-Belp was open in 1929. Its new terminal enables him to make to 400.000 passengers per annum.

History

Archaeological excavations showed that the area of Belp was already populated around 1200 before J. - C.

The first documentary mention of Belp goes up with 1107. The church of Belp appears in 1228 for the first time in the list of the churches of évêché of Lausanne.

At the Hohburg castle, built 1125, the barons de Belp-Montenach resided. In 1298 the barons fought at the sides of Freiburg against the town of Bern.

The barons had to yield Belp to the town of Bern. In 1803, Belp became the seat of the district of Seftigen.
