The book
Below the Volcano ( Under the Volcano - 1947) is regarded the masterpiece of Lowry, but also as one of the great literary works of the XXe century. It illustrates the method of writing of Lowry, which implies to draw largely from autobiographical material and to impregnate it allusions to complex elements of symbolism. Below the Volcano describes a series of relations complex and involuntarily destroying, within the framework of a vast evocation of the Mexico where Lowry evokes the town of Cuernavaca under the name of Quauhnahuac.
