Belo Horizonte
Belo Horizonte (" beautiful horizon" , in French) is a city Brésil ienne, capital of the State of the Minas Gerais.
It is the third most important city of the country, with a population of 5.300.000 inhabitants in the Metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. It was the first modern city planned in the country, at the 19th century, designed to become the new capital of the Minas Gerais.
History
The place where the city is located today was only one small farm at the end of the 19th century. After the fall of Brazilian monarchy in 1889, new controlling republican found that the old capital, Ouro Preto ( black gold , in French) was attached too much to passed and, moreover, too small for the importance of the State. The Minas Gerais was the second richest State of the federation and thus deserved, in their eyes, a new capital, more modern and organized better.In Ouro Preto, the problem of space had become very alarming, because the city, surrounded by high mountains, could not grow any more compared to the natural increase in its population.
In 1897 was inaugurated the new capital, was planned by the architect Aarão Reis and was built by poor hundreds of workers and Italian immigrants.
Culture
The town of Belo Horizonte has, as of the first years of the 20th century, summer one of the most important Brazilian cities with regard to the cultural production.Like news and modern capital of the traditional State of the Minas Gerais, one says that BH always made possible of important cultural mixtures between all that is new and the old traditions of the area.
Today, there is each year in the city several Festival S of Musique, Théâtre, Danse and other artistic events and culture in national level as well as international.
Important artistic groups, like celebrates it Grupo Corpo, the company of theater Grupo Galpão and much of other are based in Belo Horizonte.
