Bellinzone

Bellinzone (in Italian, Bellinzona ) is the capital of the Canton of Tessin. The city is located in the center of the canton, on the river Tessin. It is a point of important passage. City leave the roads towards the collars of the Saint-Gothard, of the Lukmanier, the San Bernardino and the Nufenen.

History

The city is for the first time quoted in 590 in a text of the Historiae of Gregoire de Tours because, with the doors of Bellinzone, was held a battle between Lombards and Francs: “ Olo autem dux AD huius urbis castrum, in campis situm Caninis, inportunae accedens, iaculo sub papilla sauciatus, cecidit and mortuus is ”.

Transport

The station CF of Bellinzone is also the departure of the road cyclist main road called Route of the Grisons which leads to Coire.

Culture

The three castles and the wall girdling the city are registered since 2000 with the world heritage of the humanity of UNESCO. The three castles are Castelgrande, the Château of Montebello and the Château of Sasso Corbaro.
