History

The hamlet of Bellerstein owes its name with the Germanic god Baldr, including one stone ( German Stein in ), was dedicated to him to this place. The field, including/understanding firm, forging mill and Sawmill, is already indicated to the 16th century like dependence of the Abbaye of Sturzelbronn. The firm is destroyed during the Guerre Thirty Year old and is rebuilt towards 1730. It is sold like Bien national in 1792.

The sawmill

In 1734, Charles-Claude of the Lance of Morainville, captain of the Hunting S of the king, obtains duke of Lorraine the authorization to install with the locality Armskehl a whole of industrial buildings, " between the Brook and the main road of Alsace, under the consition to make there build a tenantable and solid house and a Sawmill on one of the roadways of the three pond S ".

This one is transformed, in 1765, a forging mill of Outil a sheet S and manufacture of Fer, for Marie-Joseph-Constantin Dumont de Sandong, Capitaine of Infanterie to Bitche, which pass in 1782 to Henri Wundschuldt, owner of the forging mills of Baerenthal. The forging mill making the object of a dispute in 1789, the Architect François-Michel Lecreulx, " inspector of the buildings and factories of the field " , makes the visit of it.

The official report which it establishes provides a very precise description of the site, with, inter alia, the firm . Its buildings, the stable S on the left, the home on the right, are done during on both sides court closed by the Porc hery on the side of the street. Near the home, a small shelter of massed plan, built in Frame, shelters the Four with Pain. This general party at closed court fits completely in the tradition of this sector to the borders of the Alsace, although it is about a firm concerning the ducal field. The forging mill cease its activities with the Revolution.

The firm exists always, little transformed in its general party and its rises, even if two buildings were added to the bottom of the court and if the Porc hery were removed. The surrounding wall on street remained in its summer of origin, with its visible pillars of Portail within 1789. The side-of-wood is discrete, occupying only the pinions farm building. It is present inside the home, but the external walls are built out of hardcore of rough-cast sandstone.

The sawmill and the mettalurgic factory are registered with the topographic Inventory of the Lorraine area.
