Bellac
Bellac (in Occitan Belac ) is a common French, located in the department of the High-Vienna and the area the Limousin. The Gentilé of Bellac is Bellachon .
Geography
History
In first half of Xe century, the count of Walk, Boson the Old man based on a rocky outcrop above Vincou, a castle now disappeared. Its formed Roman ethymology of the name of Latin man Bellus and the suffix - acum meaning " the field (agricultural) of Bellus" , suggests that the site was occupied as of antiquity.The village developed thanks to the commercial exchanges which made site of Bellac a crossroads between the the Limousin the Marche, Poitou and Berry. In the middle of XIIe century, Aldebert III, direct Boson descendant, give to the middle-class men of the city a charter of freedoms which accelerated the development of the trade and the diversification of the market products. One century later, of the tanners settled at the edge of Vincou.
In 1531, Bellac was attached definitively to the Crown; one year later, François Ier authorized the middle-class men to establish four fairs per annum and a weekly market, thus confirming the commercial destiny of the city. At the same time was founded a hospital, one century later the Fathers Jesuits installed a college. In 1663, Jean of the Fountain remained a few days with Bellac where he wrote the fable entitled the Stage coach and the Fly. In 1800, the city marchoise became one of the sub-prefectures of the department of High-Vienna. Under the First Empire, the 138e regiment of infantry settled with Bellac and missing after the rout of 1940.
