Belinho

Village of 2000 inhabitants, the parish of Belinho is attached to the commune of Esposende and is located at the North of the Portugal at 1km of the Atlantic coast and 50 km of Oporto.

It is located at 7 km in the north of Esposende, with, in north Antas (S. Paio), in the east Vila Cha, the south S. Bartolomeu C Mar and in the west, the Atlantic Ocean. Its economic activities are the agriculture and the work of the granite.

Patron saint, São Pedro (Saint Pierre) is venerated in the church and the village.

The parish church (which celebrated its 100 years on August 31st, 1997) is located in a place, with the entry a granite cross. In this church, one can see the statutes of many saints. Of course, there is São Pedro, but one can see also there Notre Dame de Fatima, with Jacintha and Francisco, the crowned heart of Marie, the crowned heart of Christ, São Antonio and well of others still. Moreover, all these statutes belong to the procession of August 1st, ornamented natural flowers, and which gives final several days of festivities.

At the top of the mount Guia (guide), accessible by a staircase, but also by the road, is a vault venerating Senhora da Guia. Place of pilgrimage, the mount is a place of or one can admire a splendid panorama of the sea.

In the north of Belinho, is another vault, that of Santo Amaro.

Belinho presents also vestiges of old civilizations. One has there to find objects allotted to the asturiens, but also of the traces of Roman occupation.

  • the procession for the lord " back passos" and the " Senhora da Guia" (In May)
