Belinda Stronach

honourable the Belinda Stronach , C.P. (born the May 2nd 1966 with Newmarket, in Ontario) is a businesswoman and a political woman Canadian. She was chairman of the company Magna International. She is currently appointed Liberal party of Canada (PLC) to the House of Commons of Canada.

She was had a presentiment of to present herself in the race to the direction of the Liberal party of Canada. But on April 6th, 2006, she announced that she would not be candidate, quoting her dissension with the mode of election by deputy rather than by a direct vote of the members of the party. The observers jugaient bad its chances, since it is not bilingual. Its recent change of allegiance of the Conservative party to the Liberal party was also an obstacle to be surmounted, especially which it was already candidate with the direction of the PC.

Chairman of International Magna

Belinda Stronach is the girl of Frank Stronach, founder of the company Magna International, world giant of parts of cars. Chief of the direction (since February 2001) and president (since January 2002) of Magna, it resigned of these two stations in 2004 a few hours before announcing his entry in the race with the direction of the Conservative party of Canada.

Political life

With the Conservative party

Initially member of the Left progressist-conservative, Stronach took part in the countryside for the fusion of this one with the Canadian Alliance, in order to form the Conservative party of Canada. This fusion carried out, and although not having never occupied of political office before, Stronach stood as candidate to the direction of the Conservative party, where it arrived 2nd, behind Stephen Harper.

March 9th, 2004, it gained the nomination of the Conservative party in the district of Newmarket-Aurora, in the north of Toronto, in Ontario. With the federal elections of June 28th, 2004, she was elected appointed of this district to the House of Commons, carrying it of accuracy (21 805 votes against 21.103) vis-a-vis the liberal candidate Martha Hall Findlay. After its election, it became critical as regards international Commerce in the Shadow cabinet of the official opposition.

Stronach was regarded as one of the deputies of the Conservative party on the left on the social questions. She decided in favor of the merry Mariage and the right to the Avortement.

With the Liberal party

The May 17th 2005, Stronach passed to the liberal, informant who it was in disagreement with the positions of the conservatives on several important matters. The conservatives showed it opportunism and to especially wish to obtain an important station.

In 2005, it was Minister for the human Resources and the Development of competences in the liberal cabinet of the Prime Minister Martin.

At the time of the federal election of 2006, it was candidate of the Liberal party and was re-elected appointed of its district; however, its party was demolishes and it thus sits as deputy of the official opposition.

Private life

Belinda Stronach studied during one year with the Université York of Toronto and obtained an honorary diploma in right of the Université McMaster. It sat at the board of directors of several organizations in Canada and the United States. It was married twice, the first time with Donald Walker, Co-chairman with the Magna company, with which it had two children, then the second time with the skater speed Johann Olav Koss. She from now on is divorced. She was photographed with many recoveries at the sides of the former president of the United States Bill Clinton, and its team of communication speaks d'" amitié".
