Beleg

Beleg is a character of the work of J.R.R. Tolkien. This Elfe is often mentioned under the name of Beleg Cúthalion , “with the iron arc” ( Strongbow ). It is one of the captains of the king Thingol of Doriath of which it defends the borders.

It is him which has reccueilli Túrin Turambar, at the time of its arrival in this kingdom, and which presented it to the king, who raised it like his son. During the childhood of Túrin, Beleg often came to seek it and taught to him the combat with the arc and the sword like surviving forest. Larger Túrin defended the borders with Beleg during several months and they became good friends.

While returning from the borders of the kingdom, Túrin is insulted by the elf Saeros and kills it after a duel. Túrin flees of Doriath, believing to be in danger of death, and it is Beleg which proposes to the king to seek Túrin to bring back it in Doriath, after this one was considered to be innocent. Túrin meanwhile took the head of a group of outlaws wandering in the west of Doriath. Beleg finds it, but Túrin refuses to return, preferring to be a Master of its own men.

Túrin settles then at the dwarf Mîm and a little later it is joined there by Beleg. The area around takes the name of Dor-Cúarthol , “Country of the Arc and Heaume”, and the capacity of Morgoth is driven out by it for a time. Mîm, fascinating shade of the presence of an Elf in his house, betrays them. The Orque S attack their den by surprise, Túrin is captured and Beleg left for death. Thanks to its faculty of innate cure and its talents of healer, Beleg can quickly launch out on the track of the Orcs. It finds it in middle of the night in the middle of Taur-naked-Fuin. It makes use of its sword Anglachel to deliver his friend of its bonds, but slightly wounds it by accident. Túrin, believer to see an Orc leant on him, is thrown on Beleg and kills it with its own sword. It is buried on the spot with its large arc Belthronding.
