Behren-lès-Forbach is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle and the basin of life of the Moselle-is.
History
Behren-lès-Forbach is an old mining city whose document mentions already the existence at the beginning of the 14th century under the orthography of " Berne". At that time, the village belongs, inter alia, with the seigniory of Forbach then in Chatellerie de Sarreguemines. Behren forms in turn part of the Duchy of Lorraine or the County of Nassau-Saarbrucken. At the 17th century, the Thirty Year old war (1618-1648) will not save what is yet only one village with its occupation by the Swedish army. During this sad period, the castles close to Forbach and Sarreguemines are destroyed on the order of the Cardinal of Richelieu. The disaster of the war of 1870 obliges France to yield Alsace and the Moselle to Germany. The village of Kerbach-Behren thus becomes German. At this same time, the area becomes an important industrial basin grace in particular to its coal mines. During the First World War, the men of Behren fight in the German army, the majority on the Russian face. The village becomes again French with the treaty of Versailles in 1919. In 1927, Behren is definitively separated from Kerbach thanks to the efforts of its first mayor, Jean Weyland, and bears from now on the name of " Behren-lès-Forbach". September 1st, 1939, the village is evacuated by order of the military authority (red zone of the Maginot line). Foot has, with bicycle, in the car, cart, all the population takes the road of Gaubiving named today for this reason " street of September 1st, 1939 ". With Castle-Saline everyone takes the train bound for the department of Charente, except the families of the minors who are directed on the various French coal basins (Pas-de-Calais; Saône-et-Loire). The French outposts are on the heights of Kelsberg (close to the water tower of the city) and of Wingertsknopf. May 12th, 1940, with 4:00 of the morning, the Germans sprinkle Behren by an artillery fire rolling. With 4:30, Behren burns. With 5:30, the Germans attack and our village is occupied with 8:30. February 17th, 1945, the locality is finally released but paid heavy a tribe: disaster victim with 80%, it also lost 4 of her sons. The shortly after the Release, the life took again its course and the men turned over to the mine. In 1956, Behren-lès-Forbach becomes a large dormitory town, property of the Collieries of the Lorraine coalfields (H.B.L). The firstly newcomers succeeded of other newcomers. The small village of 700 inhabitants was moulted mushroom downtown to reach 11152 Behrinois in 1982.
