Begonia rex

Begonia rex is a Bégonia rhizomateux originating in the north of the India (the Himalayas). He was discovered with Assam towards 1850. He presents large oval sheets decorated with green and silver plated bands. The flowers are pink to tend.

Its culture requires much light and an average hygroscopy. The flowers must be removed to support the foliage.

Its crossing with close Asian species is at the origin of very numerous cultivars to the chatoyant foliage.
