Events

  • 1827 : publication of Mister Old man-wood, by Rodolphe Töpffer, often regarded as the first cartoon of the history. The account consists of successive images accompanied by texts. There is no yet Phylactère S.
  • 1829: Creation of the Silhouette, a satirical newspaper, soon followed the Caricature (1830), the Hullabaloo (1832), aris comic (1844), the Newspaper to laugh (1848) and well of others.
  • 1841 : Creation of the British newspaper Punch (subtitle: “The London Hullabaloo”).
  • 1893 : The Little Bears, by James Swinnerton
  • 1895: Yellow Kid, by Richard Felton Outcault (first Phylactère in 1896)
  • December 12th 1897: First appearance in the New York Newspaper of a band of Pim, WFP and Poum, by Rudolph Dircks, which is regarded as the oldest serial diffused in the form of cartoon.
