Beerze

The Beerze is a river Dutchwoman which runs in the province of the Brabant-Septentrional and which has a length of approximately 45 kilometers.

Cours

The Beerze is born with the confluence from the Aa off Goorloop , which takes its source in the south-west of Luyksgestel close to the Belgian border , and from the Dalems Stroompje which is born close to Dalem. Of this confluence to the confluence with the Kleine Beerze, Beerze is called Groote Beerze .

It runs towards north, in the west of Casteren and between Westelbeers and Middelbeers (which draws their name from their situation compared to both Beerzes. On the field of Baest, Groote Beerze and Kleine Beerze meet; from here, the river is called very short Beerze. It passes to Spoordonk, crosses the moors of the Kampina towards Lennisheuvel, where it is called Smalwater . Right before Boxtel, an arm of the river, the Kleine Aa, is detached towards north to join the Esschestroom. The principal arm is thrown in the Dommel close to Boxtel.

Since it crosses several natural zones, Beerze preserved many of its Méandre S. It was deviated all the same at several places. In the years 1990, an overflow area from some 50 Hectare S.A. created with the locality of Viermannekesbrug (see photo). This zone is flooded three months per annum.

Beerze knows only one Water mill, in Spoordonk.
