Beer glass

One calls beer glass any container which can be used to drink Bière.

History

That can appear obvious but one speaks about “beer glass” only since the Man has a perfect command of the production and façonnement Verre (19th century). Well before this date, one drank beer in “beer pots”, kinds of terra cotta bowls more or less widened, or then, more recently, in metal containers (tin), out of wood, sandstone or ceramics.

Various types of glasses

There exists a large variety of the shapes of beer glasses, one can however gather them under these 5 principal categories:
  • the Tankard S
  • the chalices
  • the boots
  • the flutes
  • glasses corollas

Capacities

It is very difficult to give with precision the names of each capacity because they can vary from one area to another for “exotic” names more. In Belgium, it even arrives that one gives the name of the bar to designate a standard tankard of one liter.

The capacity of the “boots” goes from 3cl to more 3l.
