Bee moth

Several devastating species of Lépidoptère S of the family of the Pyralidae and the Crambidae carry the vernacular Nom of bee moth in their form Imago (butterfly).

Taxonomy

In many classifications, the Crambidae were regarded as on a subdivision of the Pyralidae . The bee moths thus find themselves now in two distinct families

Etymology

The radical pyr indicates fire and a russet-red or reddish color in Greek. The insects of the kind Pyrrhosoma are also bright red. These butterflies were considered to be born in the hearth, perhaps by what one found there them attracted by the light, or which they passed there the day safe from the solar light, or which certain species escaped from it from lower part the old barks of the logs, fabots or hays which one threw to fire.
