Beceite
Introduction
Beceite ( Catalan Beseit in , Bezeit in Aragonese) is a commune of Spain, in the Province of Teruel, autonomous Communauté of Aragon. It belongs to the Frange of Aragon as well as comarque of Matarraña. Four rivers traverse its territory: Matarraña and its affluents Ulldemó, Algars and Pena. The village is located at the feet of an assembly line called " Puertos de Beceite" or " Ports of Beseit" as a Catalan.
Demography
History
One found cave paintings, to the place says Fenellasa, which attests the presence of inhabitants in this zone, 2000 years ago.
The current site of the village was chosen by the Arabs at the 8th century. The name Beceite comes certainly from the name Abu Zeit which also gave the name to Calaceite (Calat Zeit which wants to say Château pertaining to Zeit). It is really only at the 12th century that the village taken its rise under the reign of Alphonse II of Aragon.
Beceite was set fire to and put at bag 3 times during the following centuries (war of succession, Napoleonean war and war carlist).
During the civil war, a good part of the artistic inheritance of the city was lost.
With XVIIIe and 19th century, many paper factories were born. In 1900, Beceite counted 2200 inhabitants. 1960 mark the end of this industry, just as the beginning of the depopulation.
Since July 1st 2002, the village belongs to the comarque of Matarraña (Comarca del Matarraña) which includes/understands 18 communes. The goal of this association is to especially avoid the turning into a desert of this territory by creating new jobs in the tertiary sector (tourism).

Formerly, the village was surrounded by ramparts, some doors remain of which the doors San Roque and San Gregorio.

the festivals of the village are held from August 24th to 26th in the honor of San Bartolomé (owner of the village).
