Synopsis
The history occurs at the time of colonization of North (the area of the Laurentides to the Quebec towards the end of the XIXe century (approx. 1885-90), close to Holy-Adele. A man without scruple, Seraph Poudrier, dominates the small community by using his richness. Mayor of the village, it will marry Donalda Laloge, after the father of this one, incompetent to refund his debt, gives it to him in marriage. Donalda, a soft and subjected woman who was promised in beautiful Alexis Labranche, will rather live its life according to the wills of this miserly petty and scorning, but will never let itself cut down by its situation. We visit the area of the north of Montreal through the families Fourchu, Laloge and Bouchonneau, without forgetting the Labelle priest and wealthy heiress.
