Beautiful centres, beautiful buttocks

Beautiful centres, beautiful buttocks is a novel of the Chinese writer Mo Yan. The revised last edition, which goes back to 2005, is yet available only in its French version.

The narrator of the novel, Jintong, côtoie an abstract narrator who recalls one period spread out between 1938, birth date of Jintong, and 1995, where this last finds his/her half-brother. Jintong (金童) is " the child of or" of the Shangguan family, last-born child after seven older sisters, all named in waiting of the arrival of a boy. Raised without father, Jintong is separated only with large-sorrow of the milk of his/her mother, and her cosmic obsession for the centres - from where the title of the book. The adventures which meet his/her eight sisters, though fictitious, are a touching testimony of the Chinese country company since the Japanese occupation until the socialist market economy.
