Policy

Today, a coalition violet directs the commune. At its head the socialist former deputy Jean-Claude Maene.

The political history beaurinoise is complicated to peel, the play of alliances, dissidences and of revenges could impassion much of it. The mention of the political colors of the last burgomasters makes it possible to see the alternation of the colors of the city.

Since the fusion of the communes, 6 elections took place in the commune.

In 1976, the regrouping of the village political clouts creates three great formations for the battle, PSC taken along by Albert Demars, 1st alderman of Beauraing, PRL taken along by Camille Brack, burgomaster of Beauraing and PS taken along by Robert Belot, burgomaster of Winenne, under different names. At the conclusion of the elections, PSC and PS join in spite of the préélectoraux agreements. Mr. Demars is Bourgmestre, Mr. Belot is 1st alderman.

In 1982, alliance changes and the PSC is returned in the opposion, the PS of the senator Belot obtains the mayorat, the PRL Jean Charlier and first alderman.

In 1988, two lists liberal lists clash, one, officially PRL taken along by the First alderman Jean Charlier and dissenting by Doctor Mohymont, the PS is always led by Mr. Belot and to the PSC MISTERS Henri Haquin and Joseph Warscotte lead countryside. The results allow an alliance 10 compared with 9 between the list of Mr. Mohymont and the PSC. The PS and the PRL are in the opposition!

Courts

Beauraing is the chief town of the canton. From this fact, the cantonal district court has its seat in the city. Unfortunately, for a few years, the dilapidation of the buildings then the political mistakes have made that the seat was " temporairement" transferred to the seat of the district court from Dining. Many political personalities often fight for the maintenance of the maltreatment of proximity, as the post office, finances or justice, in Beauraing, it is the opposite. The Burgomaster Jean-Claude Maene, former adviser of Laurette Onckelinck, ex-minister of justice engaged for a return of this jurisdiction in the commune. The file seems on right tracks…

The canton depends on the County court on Dining, in the spring of the Court of Appeal of Liege.

Within the framework of the Expo 58 , the province of Namur was twinned at the French department of the Gold Coast. On its side, Beauraing took also share with the rejoicings while being jemellant with the town of Seurre. Why Seurre and not another city? Pluisieurs common points decided this choice. A more or less identical number of inhabitants at the time (approximately 2.700 people), chief town of canton same patron saint, holy Martin, and affinitées in the working life, as well in the trade, agriculture and the breeding.

Twinning was concretized 2nd Sunday of September 1958, at the time of the local fairs of Beauraing and the birthday of the Release of Beauraing and Seurre. From this moment, a sporting joint committee was founded every five years, the sporting clubs of the two entities meet, with the wire of time, the bonds are distandus.

Notre-Dame de Beauraing

Facts

Between on November 29th, 1932 and on January 3rd, 1933, holy Marie would have appeared with 5 children of the village of Beauraing, Fernande Voisin, Gilberte Voisin and Albert Voisin, Andrée Degeimbre and Gilberte Degeimbre. The events proceeded in the garden of the Notre-Dame Boarding school of the Sacred Heart held by the nuns of the Christian Doctrines of Nancy.

November 29th, 1932, Fernande, 15 years, and Albert, 11 years, will seek their Gilberte sister, 13 years, with the Boarding school held by the Sisters of the Christian Doctrines of Nancy, accompanied by their friend Andrée Degeimbre, 14 years, and of his little sister Gilberte, 9 years.

Whereas it has just sounded with the door of the boarding school, Albert sees a woman equipped with floating white in the airs above the bridge of railroad. When the girls are turned over in their turn, they can also see the “smart ladies”, just like Gilberte who arrives shortly after of the interior of the boarding school. Their initial reaction is the panic. Frightened, they turn over on their premises while running, but nevertheless decide to return to seek Gilberte per same hour the following day.

November 30th, the Blessed Virgin appears to them again above the bridge; also on December 1st, but it is held this time close to the houx, then under a branch of the hawthorn close to the grid of entry of the garden. It is vêtue of a long white dress to the blue reflections. Its head, of which leave fine rays of light forming like a crown, is covered with a long white veil falling to him on the shoulders. It holds the united hands and smiles. From the December 29th, they see between its arms its enlightened heart, a such gold heart.

The Virgin Mary still appears about thirty times, until January 3rd, 1933. She presents herself as being “the Immaculate Virgin” and asks the children to be quite wise, to request and build a vault much.

The worship of Notre-Dame de Beauraing was authorized by the Bishop of Namur, Monseigneur Andre-Marie Charue dated February 2nd, 1943 in the same way, six years later, on July 2nd, 1949, the supernatural character of the facts was also recognized by the ecclesiastical authorities. Two cures were recognized miraculous.

Sanctuaries

Since then, of many people go to the Hawthorn under which Notre-Dame appeared. The infrastructures of reception developed.

The Virgin had asked for a vault on December 17th, 1932, it was necessary to await the recognition of the worship then the end of the war for entrependre the construction of the " Votive" vault; , it began 1947 to finish and to be blessed by the bishop of Turned, former vicar of Beauraing, Monseigneur Charles-Marie Himmer August 21st and 22nd 1954.

In 1968 take place dedication of the basilica devoted to the Mother of God. It is about a large concrete building built on the hill. It makes it possible to accommodate 4 to 5 miles people.

The buildings of the school were released by the departure of the I.N.D.S.C towards the street of Rohefort and a reception of the patients was organized end of the year 40, at the beginning of 50.

The purchase of the castral Field of Beauraing in 1946 by a.S.B.L. Pro Maria, manager of the sanctuaries, allowed the organization of retirements and the reception of groups of young people within a calm and green framework.

The safeguard of the memories of the appearances is entrusted to the Marial Museum. This one opened its doors on May 1st, 1951 in the buildings of current the Salle of the Friendship , it was transferred opposite the church in the building the Post office. Today, it is next to the store Pro Maria, street of the Hawthorn.

A bimonthly review makes the echo of the activities of the sanctuary, it acts of the Voice of Beauraing . This review appears since 1933 and saw the day under the name of the Official one of Beauraing , title which appeared too pompeux for the ecclesiastical authorities of the time.

At the time of the fiftieth birthday of the appearances, the Father Camille-Jean Joset carried out a series of five historical files on the facts:

  • 1. Thomas-Louis Heylen, 26e bishop of Namur (1899-1941), President of the Standing Committee of the International Eucharistiques Congresses (1901-1941) confronted with the appearances of Beauraing
  • 2. Andre-Marie Charue, 27e bishop of Namur (1941-1974) recognizes the appearances
  • 3. To go of Notre-Dame, message one half-century 1932-1982
  • 4. Former sources and new primitive documents mid-March 1933
  • 5. Official investigations 1933-1951

A famous pilgrim came in Beauraing on May 18th, 1985, it acts of the pope Jean-Paul II. After being itself stopped with the garden of the appearances, it celebrated a mass in the open air on what one from now on will call the grazing ground of the pope. GB was built above.

Teaching

Beauraing is an important school center in the area. Several thousands of pupils come each day, in the maternal one; the primary education; the general, technical and professional secondary.

For the secondary, three schools share the area, the Royal Athenaeum " Norbert COLLART" , school of the Community Wallonia Brussels; the Notre-Dame Institute of the Sacred Heart, school held by the Sisters of the Christian Doctrines of Virton and the Notre-Dame Institute, in the past held by the Brothers of the Christian Schools.

The Royal Athenaeum " Nobert COLLART"

The average school of the State was founded in 1894 rue de Dinant. It has took the name of Norbert Collart after the Second world war in remembering its director killed by the Germans because he had helped of the English aviators. The new complex street of Herdal was built end of the year 1950.

the Notre-Dame Institute of the Sacred Heart

The INDSC was rested by sisters of the Christian doctrines of Nancy in 1889. They initially held a school for girls street of Genette then street of the Church (today street of the Hawthorn). After the appearances of 1932-1933 in their garden, it was decided the transfer of the school street of Biran (today street of Rochefort) in the years 1950. The co-education adopted in 1976 made increase the number of pupils. Today, after the departure of Marie-Ghislaine Sister of the direction (2005), the school is directed by two laic, Mrs. Catherine Sepulchre-Sintzoff and Mr. Philippe Balbeur.

The Notre-Dame Institute

In 1949, under the impulse of the senior Raymond Lafontaine who deplored the secondary absence of school for boys with Beauraing, the INDB was founded. Initially ensured by the brothers of the Christian schools in the Room of the Friendship, a school is then built street of Givet. It underwent the test of fire in 1961. Since then, the school which also had to pass the course of co-education developed, mainly in the field of vocational training. Fusion with the Institute Notre-Dame de Gedinne gave place to the creation of the INDBG.

Youth movements

The Unit Scoute Notre-Dame, 34e Namur-South then 9th Chantoirs

In this time, i.e. immediately after war 14-18, existed in Beauraing, a badly defined scouting, under the direction of the abbot Culot, vicar, and of Auguste Nicolay. One confined with the Breakdown, one camped with Villers-on-Injures. All the catholic Harmony of the time carried even at a time given the uniform scout. Then, more nothing.

In 1935, Paul Pierret, of Namur, and the Goffaux brothers, from Winenne, came to find the Questiaux abbot, professor with the College Notre-Dame de Bellevue, in order to found a troop scoute in Beauraing, while starting with a patrol attached to the troop of Wellin, of which occupied itself the François abbot; what was made. the first camp was held with the Mill of Molhan, in Redu. The following year, the troop held its independent camp in Gendron. then Began a long period of prosperity, whose war 40-45 slows down hardly the activity. Some large scouts joined the maquis, with the advantage that their formation scoute was worth to them. The material of troop followed them and disappeared with the camps from Low-Semois and the Cross-Scaille. After the war, the activity of the Unit began again of more beautiful, centered in particular around the large annual camp, and sometimes of a camp at Easter. the old ones remember the families closely frays to the life scoute: Maistriaux, Wenin, Sunday, Fancy, now dispersed. It was the time of the prestigious chiefs, guards of the legends, intendants, Luc Jacques, Louis Wenin, the Maistriaux brothers, Leon Golinvaux, Henri Bauret, Pierre Beguin, Arsène Van Houtte, etc The latter, become missionary salésien, played later a remarkable part in scouting and television in Katanga. It was also the time of many sacerdotal vocations and missionaries. Alas! Three priests, old scouts, the abbots H. Dimanche, J. Wenin, pH. Maistriaux had their ministry tragically stopped in consequence of road accidents. Let us quote also the abbot Jacques Maistriaaux well-known of Beaurinois, missionary with Caîza (Bolivia). Still today, of many voluntary buildings work with the " project; S.O.S Caïza" , association which helps with the continuation of the work completed by this priest. In 1958, the Questiaux abbot passed the hand to the abbot J. Reyland. Since the 25e birthday, celebrated in 1960, the activity of the Unit did not slow down; on the contrary, it still developed under the impulse of the successive vicars of the parish.

Since then, the Unit carried on its way with new organizers and new experiments.

In this line, how not to evoke in this chapter the abbot Joseph Monfort, vicar with Beauraing of 1968 to 1982 which was invested without counting in local scouting. With an overflowing dynamism, it took part in many camps with the wolf cubs, the scouts or the pioneers. Charismatic character, it marked many young people beaurinois.

It is the time of the families Tourneur, Body, Haquin,… of many young people of these families devote their spare time to the animation of the various sections. At that time, the pioneers start again the tradition of the large fire, the unit organizes the " annually; 48 Hrs olympiques".

The truck drivers Benoit Embrechts, Marc Léonard, Jean-Louis Marlair, André Tourneur etc under the aegis of Bernard Body set up: " the week musicale". This project of scale will be concluded 2 consecutive years which will see following one another on the podium beaurinois of the famous artists; Yves Duteil, Francis Cabrel or Guy Lukowski. It is also the period of the first camps abroad. Titisee in Germany, England in the bicycle, then the camps " chantier" in Sault in Provence.

A homage here to Pitou, Pierre Turner, scout, then stimulating pioneer, missing in an accident in 1983.

Recently, in August 2007 and for two years, the unit is directed by the old ones, Eric Scaillet, Jose and Genevieve Philippot, Christophe Bouchat.
