Beaufort-on-Doron
Beaufort , or more exactly Beaufort-on-Doron , is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps. The commune is the capital of the Beaufortain, which owes him its name.
Its inhabitants is called the Beaufortains .
Geography
Beaufort-on-Doron is located in the middle of the solid mass of the Beaufortain, on the doron of Beaufort.
History
The commune bore the name of Luce , Lucia 12th century of the name of a Roman villa. Then it taken the name of the parish at the 13th century, Holy-Maxime. The commune takes the name of Belfort in 1225. Then, it evolves/moves in Villa Sti Maximi vallis Lucie and Apud Sanctum Maximum, in 1308, Castellania Bellifortis in 1334, Saint Maxime of Beaufort in 1738.The control of the castle is at the origin of tensions between Amédée VI of Savoy and the Count de Genève and of the Dauphiné. The conflict ends with the treated of Paris of 1355 where Beaufort and Beaufortain is allocated to the count Amédée VI.
Beaufortain is set up in baronnie in 1667.

Places and monuments
- the Barrage of Roselend is a concrete work of the type arches going back to 1961. Its height is of 105 m and its length is of 804 Mr. It is one of the four hydro-electric stoppings of the Beaufortain, with the Barrage of Gittaz and the Barrage of Saint-Guerin (1960), which feeds the power station of Bâthie, and that of Girotte.

Economy
The population saw mainly tourism (ski and country holidays) and agriculture, mainly the dairy breeding for the production of famous cheese, the Beaufort to which the borough gave its name. It is the starting point of a Ski station Arêches-Beaufort.
