Beatriz Merino

Beatriz Merino Lucero born on November 15th, 1947 with Lima is a political woman and especially was the first woman Prime Minister of the Peru.

Beatriz Merino is graduate National university of San Marcos in 1970, and obtained in 1977 a master in right of the Université Harvard. She was elected senator of republic for the period 1990 - 1995, its mandate was stopped during the session of the Parliament in 1992. She also worked as lawyer in load of the office of the taxes.

She was Prime Minister between June 23rd, 2003 and December 12th 2003.

A little before the end its mandate in July 2002, it was in opposition with the president Alejandro Toledo in connection with its way of controlling and also for other problems. This one asked for a change of cabinet and independent Beatriz Merino resigned at the request of this last.

In 2004, it travelled in all Spain, while it worked in this country for the World Bank in the public sector, in load of the topics of the administration and of policy, modernization of the State and reinforcement of the Congress for the Latin America. Thereafter, on September 29th, it was named “Defender of the village” for one five years period.

In November 2005, it became Ombudsman becoming thus the first woman to have this title in the country.
