Beasts off Bourbon

The Beasts off Bourbon is a group of music Rock Australia N formed with Sydney in 1983.

The original line-up of Beasts includes/understands in addition to Tex Perkins (song) and Spencer P. Jones (guitar, member also of the group The Johnnys), only founding members always on board, James Baker the beater of the Hoodoo Gurus, like two musicians of The Scientists, the guitarist Kim Salmon and the bass player Boris Sudjovic.

The group begins in the small clubs from Sydney, recording its first album, “The Axeman' S Jazz”, in only one afternoon of 1984. Although this disc obtained an unhoped-for India success as far as France where it was published by the label Closer records of Le Havre, Beasts continued to be for its members only one secondary project.

It is only into 1988 that this situation started to change with the successive separation of Johnnys and The Scientists. Beasts record the album “Sour Mash”, fusion of Blues morning of Pub rock'n'roll and of Punk, missing link between is delirious sound of a Captain Beefheart and déstructuré blues of the first group of Nick Cave: The Birthday Party.

In 1990, “Black Milk” proceeds in this way with however an approach much more “stonienne” and less savage. It constitutes the album of Beasts off Bourbon more succeeded, that which draws from the roots even of the rock'n'roll' roll (blues, music Country and Cajun…), always been useful by aggressiveness mocker and the presence of the singer Tex Perkins.

The following year, in 1991, is published “The Low Road” which joins again with the odor of sulfur and the brute force. Baker and Sudjovic left the group in order to concentrate on the formation The Dubrovniks and are replaced by Tony Pola and Brian Hooper, the rhythm section of the group of Kim Salmon, The Surrealists.

In 1993, appears an double album of pieces in public and recordings new “From The Belly Of The Beasts” in order to mark the first decade of existence of a group which turns intensely, in particular in Europe.

At the end of this round, Beasts off Bourbon will have to announce their separation, Kim Salmon leaving the group to be devoted exclusively to the Surrealists while the new group of Tex Perkins, The Cruel Sea will obtain a success in Australia with its first album “The Honeymoon Is Over”.

In 1996, Beasts are reformed with old the Divinyls and The New Christs Charlie Owen with the guitar and leave, in 1997, a new album studio “Gone”, rough and viscous. The disc receives a favorable critical reception but will have one small hit with individual “the Saturated”.

After an absence of a few eight years, except for some sporadic and not always complete appearances, 2005 see the return of the more patibulaire Australian groups with Perkins, Jones, Owen, Hooper and Pola for a new album live, " The Low Life" (Spooky Records, 2005, Spooky 017).

Before entering in studio for a new disc, they undertake a round in Europe (with a date in France) in spring 2006.
