Beach tennis

The origins of the beach tennis are fuzzy. The first grounds appeared in Italy, in the province of Ravenne, at the beginning of the Années 1980. This simple play of racket consisting in returning the ball saw its rules being established gradually: use of grounds of Beach-volleyball, descent of the net to 1,70 m, organization of matches… The owners of beaches wanting to distract their customers agreeably built the equipment necessary, thus allowing the beach tennis to develop.

Au préalable

The beach tennis is practiced traditionally on the beach, but one can play there anywhere, as from the moment when one has the place necessary. One can play also there in interior, on a ground of traditional volleyball. The beach tennis takes again the same principles as tennis, except the rebound: the ball strikes only flight.

To discover

The beginners wishing to familiarize itself with the material can initially carry out exchanges with their partner, by making them last more the possible for a long time, without counting the points, net and on an abstract surface (not of surface or of specific size of ground). In the second time, they will be able to practice on a ground with a net with the adapted height.

Applicable rules

The amateurs of challenge will be caught with the play while clashing according to the following rules: - Many plays: 3 gaining sets of 6 gaining plays each one.

- Points in the play: the points amount as with tennis (0/15/30/40).

- Service: the waiter is selected with pile or face. The service is done behind the basic line of short, towards any part of the unfavourable ground. After each point, the waiter changes side to be useful. - Change on side: before each set.

- Faults: - When the ball falls down in its own camp or outside the ground (excluded lines). If a player turns over a ball “fault”, it will be said whereas it accepts that the play continues and the fault is cancelled. - When the ball passes in lower part of the net.
