Beach

The Géomorphologie defines a beach like a “accumulation on the going material seaside of a size of fine sands in the blocks”. The beach is thus not limited to wide fine Sable; one also finds beaches of Galet S and, in the cases of the largest blocks, of the beaches called Beachrock.

One tends to restrict the beach with the Estran, but it includes/understands also the Avant-plage (also called Before-coast and where one finds the Before-dunes, called “dunes” by the holiday makers), which belongs to the infra-littoral Zone. At all events, the beaches are directed perpendicular to the dominant Houle.

The sand beaches end are appreciated holiday makers. One can distinguish “white” sands from origin Organique (remainders skeletons and other shells, Calcaire S or siliceous) of “black” sands of mineral origin or volcanic. The distinction should not however be done only on the color, of organic sands of origin being able to appear black if they are charged out of organic matters, and of sands of mineral origin being able to be clear, according to the type of rock which gave them birth.
