Baïes was a city of the Roman antiquity, town of holiday near thermal springs. Today the Italian city of Baia

Many notable Romans at the end of the Republic and under the Empire were made build residences of summer. The emperor Hadrian finished his days in one of it in 138.

Large Roman Thermes was built in Baïes; there remain about it important vestiges, from of which imposing cupolas in Roman Béton, improperly named “temple of Come” (cupola 26 m in diameter), or “temple of Diane” (cupola of 29,5 m).
