Bayard is an press group French, founded in 1870, just after the war free-Prussian of 1870, by the father Emmanuel d' Alzon and always held by the Augustins of the Assumption (catholic religious congregation).

History

Bayard is founded in 1870 under the name of Maison of the good press .

The first title, the Pilgrim, was born in July 1873. The founders had two aims: to contribute to the movement of religious and social restoration, and, to affirm a dynamic catholic presence through mass demonstrations (pilgrimages, lesson, press…).

Several collections were launched by the House of the good press:

The company will bear the name of Maison of the good press until in 1969. The name of the group, considered to be a little obsolete and being able to imply that competition as a whole constitutes bad press , changes then for Bayard Presse. This choice makes it possible to preserve initial BP (logo of the time) and to recall the establishment of the group to 3/5 rue Bayard. ( Bayard was besides the name of one of its weekly magazines colors for youth and of a collection of books which the group will publish in the Fifties and Sixties).

Today, Bayard continues his development with international and in areas with 36 million readers in the world and more than 6,3 million subscribers, nearly 150 magazines, including 72 in France. The group carries out from now on 40% of its diffusion abroad (out parochial). The Bayard group - Milan Presse accounts for 27% on behalf of market of the press youth in France, which places it at the first rank, before Hatchet-Disney (25%). Its turnover in 2005 was of 433 million euros (Source: The Cross of June 8th, 2006).

The president of the directory is Bruno Frappat which succeeded Alain Cordier in April 2005.
