Bay of Vahsel

The bay of Vahsel () is a 11 km broad bay in the western zone of the Côte of Luitpold in the Antarctic.

This bay accommodates the extremity of the Glacier S Schweitzer and Lerchenfeld. She was discovered by Wilhelm Filchner during her forwarding of 1911– 1912. At the time of its Filchner discovery thus named it in homage to the captain of the ship of forwarding the Deutschland , Richard Vahsel, which lost the life during this voyage. Filchner re-elected later the bay Herzog Ernst Bucht after important blocks of ice slipped into the sea, thus discovering a bay much broader, but the explorers which ventured in its trimmings retained bay the initial designation of Vahsel.
