Bauhaus-Archiv

The Bauhaus-Archiv is a museum Berlin ois carried out by the architects Walter Gropius and Alexander Cvijanovic and inaugurated in 1979 to shelter the files of the Bauhaus.

Initially, the project of museum should have been concretized with Darmstadt. The founder of Bauhaus, Walter Gropius, had drawn the initial plans of the new complex muséal. His/her former collaborator, Alexander Cvijanovic, modified it and adapted for the site of Berlin, in edge of the Landwehrkanal . Among installations of Alexander Cvijanovic appears the slope amongst other things cutting the body of building.

The vocation of Bauhausarchiv is to present the artistic contribution of the one of the currents of the most important fine arts of the 20th century: structure, design, photography and furniture.

The permanent collection of Bauhausarchiv presents in particular the chairs of Marcel Breuer, the luminaries of Karl Jacob Jucker and Wilhelm Wangenfeld or the parts of silverware of Marianne Brandt.
