Musical genre and influences
One can classify Battles in the style Math rock'n'roll, Ian Williams coming from Gift Caballero, one of the founders groups of the kind. In addition, the ascent of current IDM/breakbeat (Aphex Twin, Squarepusher…) on the group is obvious, as the presence of a member parallel of Prefuse 73 attest with the keyboards and their signature on the prestigious one and require Warp label of it. But the references of Battles do not stop there. One could as well quote Pinback for the management of the harmonies between low and guitars; C make say think for the taste of a post-rock'n'roll readily tightening worms of the structures plus jazz; Gong and Bogdan Raczynski for the use of deformed, acute, infantile voices; Mr. Bungle for the violence of the battery and the winks schoolkids with the film original soundtracks and the credits of cartoons; Steve Reich and Terry Riley finally for the construction of the pieces and their unfolding, which leave the good share to the tangles of loops " mathématiques" guitars.
It should be noted that a compilation of the first two EP of the group left under the title EP C/B EP in 2006.
