Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike

March 8th, 2007 concerned video, Electronic Arts put on sale the kit of extension Northern Strike for Battlefield 2142 .

In Northern Strike, the battle continues in Germany into 2145, six years after the beginning of the war. The CPA placed fortified towns in the urban surfaces abandoned following the glaciation. The EU launches a counter-offensive on Europe to expel the CPA of their grounds.

The original play was seen adding three new charts, ten new elements to be freed (two by class of soldier plus two common elements) and two new vehicles.,

Lastly, two novel modes of play made their appearance.

Moreover, EA announced that this booster rocket pack would be only downloadable on EA Link (software of remote loading in line of EA, similar to Steam) for 10 €, instead of on sale putting it in the stores. Northern Strike is always available in remote loading.

Vehicles

The pack includes two new vehicles: VCI (Fighting vehicle of Infantry) Standard 32 Hachimoto for the CPA, and VCI A-3 Goliath, a vehicle very heavily armed, for the EU.

Type 32 Hachimoto

Hachimoto is a very fast vehicle hovercraft. Its function of aéroglisse associated at its speed, makes it not easily controllable. It contains the function of turbo which one finds giving him on the light vehicles a surplus speed. It also has a very weak armor; it is only invulnerable with the bullets and of guns. The pilot and the gunner are also completely exposed to the enemy shootings. It contains, for the pilot, a system of shooting comparable with those of the land-surveyors of combat T-39 Bogatyr of the CPA, and the gunner has a grenade thrower as well as remote-controlled missiles, as those which one finds on the fighters. Hachimoto, if it is only available for the CPA as soon as a flag is taken, can also be used by the soldiers of the EU. This vehicle, equivalent in 2142 of a current hovercraft, allows a fast infiltration in the enemy lines. It is difficult for the adversary to manage to destroy this vehicle being given its handiness and its top speed. It is frightening against the infantry, but resists the shootings of heavy guns badly if it remains too a long time on the spot.

A-3 Goliath

Goliath is similar in the face and form with an armored vehicle of transport of troops, but it has also a very solid armor which is regenerated permanently. The regeneration of the vehicle is allowed thanks to seven cells of regeneration located on the roof, the sides and the back of Goliath. The cells are blue and shine when they carry out repairs. To destroy these cells slows down the refresh rate. In the video of teasing, Goliath resists a electromagnetic Impulsion, with an orbital shooting of artillery, tens of missiles fired by the infantry, and even a collision with a light vehicle of transport. Goliath functions like a conveyer of troops of the EU, without the nacelles of attack; the two vehicles have a machine-gun for each passenger. The weapons of the pilot are made up of a gun of very powerful group and a mine thrower anti-vehicle which explode when a vehicle passes too much close or comes into contact with. The weapons of the passengers postpones are simple machine-guns, the front passengers have them a launcher of explosive projectiles, having an effect on the vehicles. Goliath is only available in line mode of attack. Contrary to Hachimoto which can be used by the two teams, Goliath can be used only by the EU (if a soldier of the CPA tried to seize some, it could not return inside and take control of it).

Rewards and elements to be freed

Northern Strike contains eleven new rewards, 4 ribbons, 2 badges set out again out of three level of atribution (bronzes, money and gold) and finally a pin of catch of the base of the CPA in line mode of attack. Each reward gained in Northern Strike makes it possible to free an element (except the pin). If these rewards give access to the elements specific to Northern Strike, they can be also used to free elements of the basic play. The elements of Northern Strike can also be used in the parts of the basic play in particular thanks to the equipments of engagements if the last element were freed, finally, they can also be recovered temporarily on the corpse of an enemy soldier.

Line mode of attack

The line mode of attack is similar to the Conquête mode, except some major differences. Certain charts of the play showed the CPA attacking with only one impregnable base at the beginning and the EU defending with all the other bases, and the line mode of attack reverses the roles. In this mode, all transport of troops armor-plated and Goliath are regarded as points of resurrection (if they are not full), as in the Titan mode. Lastly, the principal base of the CPA cannot be captured as a normal base. It is initially necessary for the EU to capture all the other check-points of the chart before being able to capture the principal base of the CPA. If the latter is captured, all those which were in the zone of the base in life will receive the pin of catch of the base of the CPA in line mode of attack.

Titan mode in urban area

Always based on the principle of the Titan charts, the engagements do not take place any more in large the full desert ones, but in full city, which makes it possible to develop novel methods of combat, the urban combat in particular.

Charts

Northern Strike offers three new charts, Bridge At Remagen, Liberation off Leipzig, and Port Bavaria. These charts are the only ones to have the line mode of attack, to have the new vehicles, and propose many land-surveyors of combat but no tank. They include/understand also structures lance-nacelles with horizontal, similar so that one can find in the Titans (but with a reduced range).
